We love seeing our teammates thrive. That’s why our industry-leading, post-professional programs offer 1:1 mentoring, intensive in-person learning and a robust, evidence-based curriculum. We want every Ivy therapist to reach an advanced clinician level, and these programs also gear them up for specialty certification. Our residency programs are open to current teammates, practicing providers outside Ivy and graduating students.
To help you succeed, we team up with the industry’s best and brightest through academic and institutional partnerships, all committed to clinical excellence. Many of our programs are in collaboration with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the nation’s leading orthopedic hospital. This unique partnership gives our teammates best-in-class training, hands-on treatment techniques and cohort-based learning to develop top-tier clinicians.

Orthopedic Residency
The Ivy HSS Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency provides a structured and robust didactic curriculum to enhance clinical reasoning and advance skills while incorporating the most recent evidence-based practices. This program utilizes a blended delivery model for our didactic curriculum that includes online self-study modules, live online learning, virtual grand rounds, journal club, case review, independent study, and live in-person weekend courses that are to be completed throughout this comprehensive 12-month residency program.
Additionally, the residency program prepares residents to complete the ABPTS Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) examination upon completion of the program.
Sports Physical Therapy Residency
The Ivy HSS Sports Physical Therapy Residency is a one-year, full-time, clinically based program created to contribute to clinicians’ professional development in the field of Sports Physical Therapy. Expert clinicians will serve as faculty mentors to guide each resident in developing advanced knowledge and clinical expertise throughout the residency program to help residents earn their ABPTS Sports Certified Specialist (SCS).
Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency
The Ivy Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency is a one-year, full-time, clinically based program created to excel in the professional development of clinicians in the field of Pediatric Physical Therapy. Expert clinicians will serve as faculty to guide, instruct and mentor each resident in developing advanced knowledge and clinical expertise throughout the residency program. Additionally, the residency program prepares residents to complete the ABPTS Pediatric Certified Specialist (PCS) examination. Each resident must complete all assigned didactic material and written and practical examinations.
Pediatric Occupational Therapy Fellowship Program
The Ivy Rehab Pediatric OT Fellowship Program is a one-year, clinically based program created to excel the professional development of clinicians in Pediatric Occupational Therapy. Expert clinicians will serve as faculty to guide, instruct and mentor each resident in developing advanced knowledge and clinical expertise throughout the residency program. Additionally, the fellowship program is designed to prepare residents to successfully sit for and pass the AOTA Board Certification in Pediatrics (BCP) exam.
Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology Residency
The Ivy Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology Residency is a one-year, full-time, clinically based program created to excel in the professional development of clinicians in the field of pediatric speech–language pathology. Encompassing topics across the field of pediatric speech–language pathology, including oral motor skills/feeding, childhood apraxia of speech, autism, augmentative and alternative communication, childhood language and articulation disorders, executive functioning, and pragmatic language to grow clinical skills and provide quality care.
Hand Therapy Fellowship Program
The Ivy Hand Therapy Fellowship Program is a 12-month clinical program that provides an accelerated pathway for clinicians to become advanced hand and upper extremity rehabilitation practitioners and prepares them to sit for the Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) exam. The curriculum focuses on higher-level clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and the acquisition of advanced manual therapy skills. The well-rounded curriculum is designed to be delivered in a hybrid format so any therapist across the company can participate and could elevate their practice.
Geriatric Vestibular Specialty Program
The Geriatric & Vestibular Specialization Program is a 12-month clinical program designed for Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistant’s to become experts in treating older adults by integrating geriatric specialization and vestibular rehabilitation. Physical therapists and PTA’s will develop the skill set necessary to address the unique challenges of the fastest-growing patient population, with a strong emphasis on fall prevention and functional mobility in outpatient physical therapy. This comprehensive approach ensures clinicians are well-equipped to deliver exceptional care while advancing their professional development in these critical areas.
Pelvic Health Specialty Program
The Ivy Rehab Pelvic Health Specialty Program is a one-year, clinically based program created to excel the professional development of clinicians in Pelvic Health Therapy. This program will provide a structured curriculum that will enable each participant to complete the education experiences and integrate knowledge to practice in a meaningful way. In addition to the self-guided curriculum, the Pelvic Health Specialty Program will include monthly group meetings and small group mentorship to support advanced knowledge and clinical competence. Each participant is expected to complete all assigned didactic material and achieve clinical milestones for successful completion of the program.

Are the residency programs accredited?
- The Ivy Rehab HSS Orthopedic Residency Program is the first of Ivy’s Residency Programs to be accredited by ABPTRFE.
- The Ivy Rehab HSS Sports Residency Program is applying for candidacy.
- We hold all our residency programs up to accreditation standards and will be pursuing accreditation of the Sports Residency, Pediatric PT Residency, and Pediatric OT Fellowship Programs in the future.
Are there any additional costs outside of the program tuition?
- Admissions criteria states that accepted participants must have active memberships of professional associations (APTA/AOTA) and specialty section membership. Membership costs are an additional investment by the participant.
- Tuition includes:
- Program education/resources/materials
- Travel and lodging to and from in-person courses
- Mentor time and mentor costs
- Program administration costs
- Specialty exam application fee
Can I complete a Residency/Fellowship Program in any Ivy Rehab Network clinic?
The Ivy Rehab Network clinic where a teammate completes their residency/fellowship must meet the necessary qualifications. This includes:
- The clinic carries a diverse caseload that meets the needs of residency/fellowship experience
- The clinic can support a resident/fellow
- The clinic has access to a qualified mentor
Can I work part time and participate in a residency program?
No, all of Ivy Rehab’s Residency Programs require full-time employment to participate in these programs.
Do I have to be an Ivy Rehab Teammate to apply to an Ivy/Ivy HSS Residency/Fellowship Program?
Applicants do not need to be Ivy Rehab Teammates upon application. If an applicant is accepted into a Residency/Fellowship Program, they are required to become a teammate prior to the start of the program and will be placed in a qualifying clinic in collaboration with our Talent Acquisition team.
Do you accept new graduates?
Yes. Admissions criteria states that you must be licensed in your primary state of practice and have at least 3 months of employment with Ivy Rehab prior to starting the program. We will accept applicants into the program, pending licensure.
Does Ivy Rehab support conference participation?
Conference attendance and participation are important components of the learning and networking process. A graduation criterion for Ivy Rehab encourages residents/fellows to submit an abstract to national, state, and/or local conferences based on case report submissions or approved research. Attendance at the conference may be supported by the teammates’ use of CE allowance for registration costs. Travel and lodging expenses follow our education policies and may be reimbursable depending on the teammates level on the clinical career ladder.
How many hours per week am I expected to treat patients during the residency program?
All of Ivy Rehab Residency/Fellowship Programs are full time programs and all residents are required to treat a full caseload with a minimum of 32 hours of patient care each week during their residency program year.
How many seats are in a cohort?
- We accept highly qualified clinicians into each of the following programs:
- The Pediatric OT, PT, SLP, Hand Therapy Programs accept up to 15 participants
- The Orthopedic Residency accepts up to 20 residents
- The Sports Residency accepts up to 10 residents
- ensure Ivy Residency and Fellowship Programs are effectively and sustainably supported, each cohort requires a minimum of 10* accepted participants to start a new program year. If the program does not fill a minimum of 10* seats, acceptances will rollover to the following cohort year.
- *Sports Residency has a minimum of 6 accepted participants

Is there a commitment to Ivy Rehab after graduation from the Residency/Fellowship Program?
Applicants accepted into Ivy Rehab Residency/Fellowship Programs must commit to two (2) years of employment with an Ivy Rehab Network clinic after graduation from the program or pay back the Ivy Rehab investment of $13,000. A program agreement is provided to each teammate admitted into the program that outlines the employment commitment and prorated pay back in detail.
What does a hybrid or blended learning format look like?
Hybrid or blended learning is a combination of self-study (readings, asynchronous modules), live virtual meetings and education experiences, and in-person weekend intensives. Each residency program follows a blended learning format to allow Ivy teammates across our geography to take advantage of Residency/Fellowship Education.
What does mentoring look like in residency/fellowship?
- All 1:1 mentoring that occurs in the residency/fellowship typically occurs in the resident’s clinic and is a mix of virtual and in-person delivery. The mentor can either be onsite or travel to the resident/fellow location for mentor sessions.
- The resident/fellow is the primary care provider during 2/3 of all mentor hours and 1/3 of mentor time is dedicated to skills practice, case review, journal discussion, or alternate mentor opportunities.
What does the time commitment of a Residency/Fellowship Program look like outside of my regular work schedule?
- Every Residency/Fellowship Program has is expected to complete all didactic components of the program in addition to patient care hours. There are scheduled weekly meetings and self-study time that the participant will need to dedicate to their success in the completion of the program.
- Each cohort meets virtually for a specific amount of time, which occurs weekly, and the time varies for each program.
- In addition, participants report an average of 4-6 hours per week for self-study, mentorship preparation, and completion of assignments.
What is involved with the application process?
What is the cost of a Residency/Fellowship Program?
The total program cost is about $18,000 per resident. Ivy Rehab invests into each teammate, supporting most of the total program cost, leaving program participants responsible for covering the remaining cost via an out-of-pocket tuition:
- Ortho and Sports Residency: $5,500
- Pediatric OT Fellowship, Pediatric PT Residency, Pediatric SLP Residency, and Hand Therapy Fellowship: $4,500
What is the length of the program?
All Ivy Rehab Residency and Fellowship Programs are 12 months and begin each January.
What is the salary associated with a Residency/Fellowship Program?
As a program participant, you will become a full-time employee with Ivy Rehab. You will receive a commensurate salary and full benefits package.
What makes Ivy Rehab/Ivy Rehab HSS Residency Programs unique?
- Ivy Rehab and Hospital for Special Surgery have a unique relationship as successful collaborative partners. Ivy provides learning environments across a large geography, mentors, and financial support. HSS provides high quality, residency education curriculum and residency experience to create a solid program that can be scaled and help address the capacity gap that exists within our industry.
- Faculty from both organizations contribute to the educational and leadership experiences within our partnered residency programs.
When is the application deadline?
All applications are due by:
- June 30th: Non-Ivy Teammates
- August 31st: Ivy Teammates
Who can apply to the program?
Minimum Requirements Include:
- PT, OT, or SLP licensure in primary state of practice.
- Employment as a full-time clinician with Ivy Rehab.
- Applicants must be employed by Ivy Rehab Network for at least 3 months before the program start
Why should I apply for a residency/fellowship program?
- Residency/fellowship education research shows that the 4 primary reasons to pursue residency training includes: the desire to provide better patient care, fast track to expert practice, preparation for specialty practice, and career advancement (Osborne, PTJ, 2020). Residents and fellows develop strong leadership and communication skills, have shown to provide quality patient care, more efficient clinical reasoning and have overall more career engagement and satisfaction (Briggs, JOPTE, 2023; Briggs, JOPTE, 2022; Whitman, J Man Manip Ther, 2020).
- Residency/fellowship is focused on changing your practice to equip you with the knowledge and skills to practice at an advanced level at the top of your license.
Will the Residency/Fellowship Programs prepare me to sit for a board certification exam?
Yes! All of Ivy’s residency/fellowship programs prepare clinicians to sit for board certification exam upon graduation.
