Here at Ivy Rehab one of our core values is Serve Others. Recently, the clinic directors at Ivy Rehab Network gathered to put this value into practice: we partnered with Hands of Gratitude to build over 60 prosthetic hands for those in need across the world.
Hands of Gratitude coordinates the creation, assembly, and donation of prosthetic hands. Recipients of the prosthetics typically include those suffering from illness, accidents, birth defects, or other traumas. The typical cost of a prosthetic hand can range from $3,000 to $10,000. Hands of Gratitude helps by eliminating the burden of cost for these families.
Before assembling the hands the group watched a presentation introducing a few of the recipients of prosthetics. The team was touched to hear the stories of individuals whose lives would change for the better once they received a prosthetic hand. Ivy Rehab’s clinical directors then worked together in small teams to assemble the hands, and the enthusiasm in the room was palpable! They also decorated carrying cases for the hands with inspiring messages and pictures. Over the course of 90 minutes, the teams were able to assemble an impressive 60 hands to be distributed worldwide.
The activity was a phenomenal way to give back to those in need, and it also served as a great team-building exercise. The clinic directors met and worked with teammates in other states, which is something that they don’t get the opportunity to do every day. Not only did Ivy Rehab teammates get to Serve Others, but they also got to be together as One Ivy while giving back!
